Simulating Space, the Trailer 🎬

April 11, 2025

Quick shift from the usual workflow tips today – wanted to share a project I recently worked on that tackled a fascinating creative puzzle: visualizing the future of space simulation.

Ever wrestle with making something highly technical or abstract visually compelling? We all know the challenge – turning complex data or engineering concepts into something that grabs attention and tells a story effectively.

I wanted to share a project I worked on recently that tackled this head-on: a trailer for a campaign focused on space technology and the power of simulation (part of Ansys' Space Campaign).

Sharing it for 2 reasons:

  1. I am extremely proud of the visuals the team created
  2. A great example of making a B2B narrative something visually dynamic and impactful

For me, one of the interesting parts was the editing rhythm, especially around the midpoint and figuring out how to transition between the speakers. I wanted to balance the reality of what they are working on with the tangible, real-world outcomes.

My goal is that it feels like a movie and not a marketing video. It's much easier to see than explain, though! Take 90 seconds and see what you think:

I'm curious to hear what my fellow editors and visual storytellers think of the shots and overall pacing.

I recently had the chance to work on a project in one of my favorite places in the world—Zion National Park. If you’ve never been, imagine towering red rocks glowing under the sun, shifting colors from vibrant orange to deep purples as the day moves on. It’s a cinematographer’s dream, but, as with any shoot, there’s always more going on behind the scenes than you might expect. Here’s how this latest adventure played out and what I learned along the way. The Project I was hired as the...
