Simulating Space, the Trailer 🎬

April 11, 2025

Quick shift from the usual workflow tips today – wanted to share a project I recently worked on that tackled a fascinating creative puzzle: visualizing the future of space simulation.

Ever wrestle with making something highly technical or abstract visually compelling? We all know the challenge – turning complex data or engineering concepts into something that grabs attention and tells a story effectively.

I wanted to share a project I worked on recently that tackled this head-on: a trailer for a campaign focused on space technology and the power of simulation (part of Ansys' Space Campaign).

Sharing it for 2 reasons:

  1. I am extremely proud of the visuals the team created
  2. A great example of making a B2B narrative something visually dynamic and impactful

For me, one of the interesting parts was the editing rhythm, especially around the midpoint and figuring out how to transition between the speakers. I wanted to balance the reality of what they are working on with the tangible, real-world outcomes.

My goal is that it feels like a movie and not a marketing video. It's much easier to see than explain, though! Take 90 seconds and see what you think:

I'm curious to hear what my fellow editors and visual storytellers think of the shots and overall pacing.

Rob Ruscher September 9th 2025 A Data-Driven Approach to Outperform the 'Simulating Space' Trailer ↓ Have you ever looked at a "good" result and felt it should have been great? Perhaps you made a great video that didn't get the reach you were hoping for. That was my experience with the original trailer for our ‘Simulating Space’ documentary. A 4.6% click-through rate and 5.6k views in six months are respectable for a B2B marketing video. It’s good, but not good enough. The data told a deeper...

Rob Ruscher September 9th 2025 Beyond the Teleprompter: Finding the Human Story in B2B Tech ↓ We've all seen them: customer testimonials that check every box. They list the right features, mention ROI, and follow the script perfectly. They’re professional, polished, and completely forgettable. Why? Because in our rush to capture messaging points, we often script the humanity right out of the story. I’ve learned that being curious is a valuable asset as a filmmaker. It’s the key to moving...

April 22, 2025 Prompting AI - For Video Producers & Editors ↓ Hey Reader I've got a question for you, Ever feel like you're only scratching the surface with AI? You’ve probably played around with ChatGPT or similar tools, maybe even used some AI features in your software. But getting truly useful results quickly often feels like... well, a frustrating time-sink, right? Learning the Correct Skill I know I initially spent way too much time trying to fix AI outputs that were supposed to save me...
